From Hardware Teardowns to Artificial Hearts
The crucible that forged an engineer's mindset.
Early Beginnings with Mechanics
Born in 2005 with Kurdish roots from Akre and raised in Mosul. My childhood was far from ordinary; while other children were drawn to toys, metal pipes, nuts, and bolts were my world. I spent my time organizing and taking apart these mechanical tools, unaware that these simple pieces would form the cornerstone of my engineering mindset.
Displacement and Self-Learning
With the events of 2014, my life's trajectory completely changed. I lived through a whirlwind of rapid relocations, moving between 13 homes and 8 schools. In the absence of stability and scientific laboratories, engineering and scientific documentaries became my only "lab" from which I learned.
The Path to Biomedical Engineering
When I reached university, I specifically chose Biomedical Engineering because it is a multifaceted, complex, and difficult major—which is exactly what ignites my passion. My old fascination with fluid dynamics and pipes naturally guided me toward the world of artificial hearts and hemodynamics. My enthusiasm peaked when I learned about Dr. Azad Najjar, an Iraqi-Kurdish physician who studied in my city and is now developing an artificial heart in Sweden, alongside the profound inspiration from innovator Bashar Zabin in "Stars of Science" with his project "Jinan" (an educational anatomical heart). These two models were the direct inspiration that drove me to start designing and building my educational artificial heart (HemoLoop).
